1. Walk Along the Promenade in Salthill

There’s nothing quite like seeing Salthill on a warm summers day. People soak in the sun wearing shorts and t-shirts, while children play in the sand and run through the water. Young and old alike flock to the diving board and take turns plunging into the Atlantic to cool off.

If you’re feeling the heat, take a walk into Salthill village where you’re sure to find an ice cream parlour to cool off.

2. Take the Plunge at the Black Rock Diving Board

We previously alluded to it, but jumping off the diving tower in Salthill is far and away one of the most iconic things to do during a Summer visit to Galway. Granted if the weather is fine you’ll have to wait your turn, but it’s worth it. There are two levels available on the tower so don’t worry if you’re scared of heights or need a little bit of encouragement to warm to the depth of the drop.

Salthill’s diving tower is without question one of the top outdoor activities worth experiencing in Galway city this summer!

 

3. Explore the Latin Quarter

If you’re interested in a lively and exciting night out in Galway city during the summer months, then visiting Galway’s Latin Quarter should be one of the top things on your to-do list. There are plenty of great local pubs, bars, and restaurants destined to make your visit a memorable one. In fact, there are over 50 restaurants and 15 bars along the street, that offer great live music. In short, Latin Quarter’s cobbled streets are a colourful mix of tourists and locals alike, so we’ve listed the lively Latin Quarter as another top thing to do when visiting Galway city this summer.

 

4. Spend the Morning Admiring Galway Cathedral

You can enter the cathedral free of charge, although a donation of 2 euros per visitor is very much appreciated to help maintain the building. Groups can enter the structure without booking in advance. Galway Cathedral is one of the smallest stone cathedrals in Europe. The building was constructed during the 1950s and has long since been a popular landmark within the city’s landscape next to the River Corrib. J.J. Robinson is credited with having designed the cathedral and featured there within is a captivating blend of Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance details that invoke a sense of wonder as you gaze up at the cathedral’s hallow ceiling.

5. Galway Atlantaquaria, National Aquarium of Ireland

In the National Aquarium of Ireland, you’ll experience Ireland’s native sea life first-hand. From touch pools to popular fish feeding sessions, a trip to Galway’s Atlantaquaria is a fun and educational experience for family and friends alike.
